Clock Tower Lodge Pool Fatality

Boyne Mountain Resort President/General Manager, Ed Grice, today released the following statement in response to the fatality that occurred at the resort's Clock Tower Lodge pool at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday, April 18.

"Our security department received the call of a possible drowning at 6:08 p.m. Thursday; 911 had also been called and first responders arrived shortly after.  Resort security, EMS, and the Charlevoix County Sheriff's Office rendered assistance.  The victim was then transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.

"The loss of a child is unfathomable. The parents, family and friends of this young lady are in our thoughts during this time of sorrow."

The incident took place in the Clock Tower Lodge pool and it is unknown how long the victim, age 14 years, had been under water.  She was accompanied in the pool area by her parents and sister.

As with all swimming pools at Boyne Mountain, the Clock Tower Lodge pool is not staffed with a lifeguard.  The victim was found unresponsive in three-feet of water.  The pool's depth ranges from three to five feet.

The victim and her family were lodging at Bluegreen Vacation's Mountain Run, which is adjacent to Boyne Mountain's property.

Due to concerns for patient and family confidentiality, Boyne Mountain is not able to identify the victim.
