A Glacier Graduation

Victor Glacier held on long enough to make one grad's open house unforgettable.

A few days ago, our Mountain Operations team got a request from a longtime Boyne Mountain passholder. His daughter, a Gaylord High School graduate and Team Boyne racer, was having her open house, and he wanted to do something special.

He wanted snow.

Not from a snow cone machine. Real, actual snow from Victor Glacier. The same snow she trained on, raced on, and grew up on. So that morning, we helped him collect some.

We didn't think much of it beyond that. Just a chance to do something cool for a family that's been part of this mountain for a long time.

Then the photos came back…

Skis propped against trees. A Boyne Racing flag strung between the trunks. Two signs marking her State Finals finishes. And right in the middle of it all was a pile of Victor Glacier snow, sitting in a backyard in northern Michigan on a sunny spring afternoon like it had every right to be there.

It kind of did.

This season pushed later than any in Boyne Mountain history. Victor Glacier held on through Memorial Day, past the point where most of us expected it to still be around. Plus, a local grad got to celebrate with snow that meant something extra special.

That's a pretty good way to close out a season. Congratulations, Rayna. We'll see you on the hill next year.
