Boyne Mountain's 70-Hours of Skiing Raises Nearly $35,000

In honor of its 70th anniversary, Boyne Mountain Resort hosted the 70-Hour Mountain Challenge, January 9-12, spinning lifts for 70 consecutive hours and helping to raise $34,500 for Challenge Mountain.  The event had 200 participants who raised funds and 72 skiers and snowboarders that took to the slopes day and night tracking a whopping 7,257 runs.

The monies generated were from individual and team pledges, registration fees, sponsorships, and four-day ticket sales donated by Boyne Mountain.

Bill Aten, Challenge Mountain Board president and volunteer ski instructor, said, "One hundred percent of the money raised will be used to provide life enhancing recreational opportunities like adaptive skiing for children and adults living with disabilities."

Ed Grice, president and general manager of Boyne Mountain Resort, said, "I am proud of the collaborative efforts of the Challenge Mountain and Boyne Mountain teams, as well as all those that pledged support for this great northern Michigan organization.  It was a historic event fitting of our 70th anniversary."

Challenge Mountain is an organization that is close to the heart of the Kircher family, owners of Boyne Mountain Resort.  Founder, Everett Kircher, donated Challenge Mountain's land in 1984.   Participants in the 70-Hour Mountain Challenge received a swag bag and earned prizes in several categories, including the grand prize of limited edition 70th anniversary skis from Shaggy's Copper Country Skis.

Robert Parker finished the Challenge with 603 runs, the most runs of any adult, and Caleb Dubey tracked the most runs in the youth division with 501.  Dan Decker, John Jackubiak, and Lake Street Vets contributed the highest donations at $3,600, $1,214 and $4,749, respectively.   Challenge Mountain would like to thank the following event sponsors: Great Lakes Energy, Boyne Country Propane, Bay Street Orthopaedics, Jim's Collision, Coca-Cola, Petoskey Brewing Company, and Shaggy's Copper Country Skis.    For more information on Boyne Mountain Resort, visit boynemountain.com or call 866.759.1472.  For more information on Challenge Mountain, visit challengemtn.org or call 231.582.1186
