Labor Day weekend is looking like one worth getting outside for.
The forecast is shaping up beautifully, summer is still hanging on, and there’s one last long weekend to make the most of before fall officially arrives.
And if you're heading north for one of Michigan's most iconic Labor Day traditions, we've got an idea for what to do after you've crossed the Mighty Mac.
Walk another bridge.
Because if you're going to make a day of it, you might as well bridge the gap between two Northern Michigan favorites.
Walk the Mighty Mac
The 2026 Annual Mackinac Bridge Walk takes place Monday, September 7, with the walk beginning at approximately 7 a.m.
There’s no fee and no registration required. Just show up at either end of the Mackinac Bridge in St. Ignace or Mackinaw City and get ready to walk.
The bridge will be closed to public traffic from 6:30 a.m. until noon, giving walkers a pretty spectacular opportunity to experience the Mighty Mac on foot. The average walk takes about two hours, and you can either turn around at the midpoint or continue all the way across.
Grab your official Bridge Walk certificate when you finish. Don’t lose it. You’re going to want to bring it with you.
Planning to walk all the way across?
Keep in mind that bus transportation back across the bridge is not provided, so you'll need to arrange your own transportation back to your starting point after the bridge reopens at noon.
Next Stop: Boyne Mountain
After your morning at the Mackinac Bridge, head south and enjoy a scenic drive through northern Michigan.
From Mackinaw City to Boyne Mountain, it's about 60 miles and roughly a 1-hour drive, depending on traffic.
So grab a coffee, queue up your favorite road trip playlist and make your way south.

Michigan's Second Bridge
Here’s where that Bridge Walk certificate comes in handy.
From September 7 through September 14, anyone who participates in the Mackinac Bridge Walk can show their official Bridge Walk certificate at the SkyBridge Michigan ticket window and purchase a SkyBridge ticket for just $10. With SkyBridge open 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily, you've got plenty of flexibility to make the drive south.
And you don't have to rush to use it right after the walk. The offer is good throughout the entire September 7–14 window, so you can make SkyBridge part of your Labor Day adventure or save it for another day that week.

There may be a little rain to start the morning, but things are looking like they could clear up as the day goes on. With temperatures reaching the low to mid 70s in the afternoon, the forecast could make for a pretty nice afternoon at SkyBridge.
