Victor Glacier - Protected Forever

It's Official

source: north american snow preservation council

After two seasons of whispers, speculation, and one very strongly worded letter from our snow cat operators, it's official: Victor Glacier has been designated a Protected Glacier by the North American Snow Preservation Council.

This designation comes after an extensive review process that included on-site inspections, snowpack core samples, and what we can only assume was a very passionate presentation by someone who really, really loves the wiggle.

What Does it Mean?

It means Victor Glacier is now legally recognized as a natural resource of public significance.

It means its preservation is a matter of federal interest. And most importantly, it means we are legally required to keep it open.

We didn't make the rules. We just benefit from them.

Per the NASPC's Preserved Snow Feature Act, Section 4, Paragraph 2:
A designated glacier must remain accessible to the public for recreational use throughout the calendar year, including summer months, to ensure ongoing community engagement with the protected resource.

Designation No. NASPC-2026-MI-0401

See You in August

Lift tickets will be available at the season pass window. Plus, the Back Forty Bites food trucks will be relocated to the slopeside at the glacier because a protected natural landmark deserves proper slopeside service.

We are so grateful to the North American Snow Preservation Council for this honor, and we look forward to many more years of legally mandated ski operations on one of Michigan's most treasured natural landmarks.

Happy April 1st from everyone at Boyne Mountain.

Victor Glacier is not actually a protected glacier. The North American Snow Preservation Council does not exist. We (probably) won't be open for riding in August. But glacier season is still in full swing!
