10 Ice Breakers for the Solo Chairlift Rider

December 4, 2017

All you single riders, this one's for you!

Maybe your friends ducked out early to head to Forty Acres Tavern while you squeeze in a few more laps. Maybe you're just flyin' solo, putting in the hours on the slopes with no one to slow you down.

Either way, if you're carving the slopes single, you'll be riding the lift side by side with a total stranger or two at some point or another. And sometimes, these few shivering minutes of open airtime can get awkward - unless you break that ice.You can only talk about the weather for so many rides, and repeating the same lines about how great this early morning cord is can get old fast. We're longtime believers that there are no strangers on the chairlift, so we've come up with a list of icebreakers for you to burst that silent bubble, and maybe even make a friend. If you play your cards right, these will get you from awkward fidgeting to busting a gut by the time you make it to the top lift shack.

  1. I met my last three wives on this very chairlift!

  2. I always ask telemark skiers not to call my house at dinnertime. (For best use, follow up with drum set sound effects).

  3. This is my first time on a chairlift, what are you supposed to do at the top?

  4. Do you ski or snowboard?

  5. I remember skiing here back in 1949...we had to ski uphill both ways!

  6. My seeing-eye guide was sick today, but with today's conditions, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to get out here!

  7. It's amazing how much faster this beer makes me ski!

  8. Me and my buddy Harry used to ride this exact chair butt naked for Carnival Weekend!

  9. Is it just me or does it feel like we're moving?

  10. Have you seen my kid?
