Mountain People Episode 5

A series of stories from Boyne Mountain's slopes

January 8, 2018

Brody grew up outside Detroit, taking every chance he got in the wintertime to come to northern Michigan to ski. After ski racing in high school, it just made sense that he'd go just about as far north in Michigan as a college student could - to Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Michigan. Now a ski patroller at Mt. Ripley, Brody still takes the occasional trip to relive his glory days at Boyne Mountain.

"I started skiing when I was 2 years old. My dad brought me into the sport, and it's what we've always done - what ties us together. You know, there's not much that a little kid and a 40-year-old dude have in common, but put us on skis, and we're the same person.

We spent a lot of time together here at the Mountain, it was just a great place for us to be. One time, we did this crazy ski tour of Michigan together... We did Boyne Mountain, The Highlands, Mount Ripley, Marquette Mountain, and Bohemia in the span of 4 days - it was insane, but just a ton of fun.

My favorite memory here at the Mountain has gotta be the time - probably four or five years ago in March - we woke up to 24" of fresh snow. We completely lost our minds and just went skiing all day long, just with these huge smiles on our faces the whole time. My dad and I were like little kids in a huge  candy store."
