Mountain People Episode 12

A series of stories from Boyne Mountain's slopes

Hanging out at mom's office after school might not be every little kid's fondest memory, but that's not the case for 10-year-old EmmaLeigh. That's because her mom works at Boyne Mountain's SnowSports Academy, so after school time is spent on the slopes, hanging out with SnowSports Academy instructors, or lounging around the bonfire watching skiers come and go. If that's not the life, we're not sure what is.

"I don't even remember the first time I came here, but I know that I've always loved it. It's where I grew up - where I spent all my time away from home and school. And it' s been an awesome place to do that.

I chose to learn to ski because you get a little more speed doing it - more than snowboarding. I take lessons, and that's how I learned to do it. It's fun to learn by taking lessons because I'm friends with all the instructors, but he hardest part about learning how to ski is definitely turning.

It's so fun here! Last time I went to Everett's, we had three desserts - a lava cake, a cookie, and ice cream. I get to spend my time where other people take a vacation, so I live it up just like them! It was awesome.

My favorite run is Mr. Moll. I like it because it's easy - so you have fun, but also because it's hard - so you learn. I think everybody should take lessons because it's important to get better...not just kids but adults too.

The instructors are always trying to get me to put on their coat to be an instructor, so maybe one day I will be one too."
